Joseph Wowczuk

My name is Joseph Wowczuk, and I am the founder of Andrew Lighting Service. I grew up in Pittsburgh and attended Mt. Lebanon High School. I am currently attending West Virginia University, studying Mechanical Engineering. I have been active in the Pittsburgh community by helping several local businesses recover from the pandemic. Most of all, I enjoy assisting in, and providing excellent service to the people in the Pittsburgh area.

My Story

Andrew Lighting Service is named after my late Grandfather, Andrew Wowczuk. Throughout my childhood, he emphasized the importance of structure and focus. While doing so, he also inspired me to become the engineer that I am today by encouraging Legos when I was little, and robots as I got older. He is one of the people who has helped to inspire me and make me who I am today. My other Grandfather, Wilfred Ford, has taught me everything that I know about hand tools and working outside. Growing up in Upstate New York, Wilfred attended Forestry School, and has spent a lifetime working in the sun ever since. While Andrew taught me the technical skills, Wilfred taught me the hands-on approach. I try to incorporate both mindsets in every project that I work on.

Last year, I began hanging Christmas lights, but only advertising through the app, Nextdoor. After a very successful first year, I decided that I wanted to expand the business, and start an LLC. I have provided opportunities to other young, enthusiastic students in the Pittsburgh area. By providing other students with these jobs, I hope to inspire them, and that one day they will be doing just as I have done.

The students who I hire are self-driven, hardworking individuals who have been raised around the toolshed. On top of their previous experiences, I have trained each employee in three essential areas: safety, working effectively, and helpfulness.

At Andrew Lighting Service, we fully assess every single job to gain a thorough understanding of the risk that may be present. The health and safety of our employees is above all other else within the business. Employees are taught the importance how to act safely, not speedily.

We charge by the job, not the hour. This ensures that our employees are working as efficiently as possible, while maintaining a safety-first mindset. It's not fair to the employee, nor the customer to charge by the hour for a job such as hanging lights. However, based on the job being completed, this policy may vary.

The Pittsburgh community has a special place our hearts. We believe in a help-first mentality. If a customer suffers from a physical limitation and is in need of their trash cans taken to the bottom of the driveway, we absolutely are willing to assist. This is just an example, as we like to help the community in whatever ways possible.
